12th Annual Day-Long Festival of Dance

On Sunday, July 19, the San Diego Area Middle Eastern Dance Association (SAMEDA) presents an exciting faire in celebration of the mystique and beauty of Middle Eastern Dance at the McMillin Events Center at the NTC Promenade. Come learn about this ancient art/culture and see some of the nation's most talented performers. Shop vendor booths with a dazzling supply of beautiful costumes and accessories, music, jewelry and more. Entertainment includes celebrity artists and students.



2 WORKSHOPS!
By three of the World's Top Instructors!

Steven Eggers
11am - 1pm

Dubbed "The Most Beautiful Boy in Belly Dance", Steven Eggers has made of name for himself as a performer and instructor, while developing quite a following. His popularity has not only spread across the web, but the globe as well as evidenced by an upcoming trip to teach and to perform in Germany and Poland. If you have ever had the chance to see him perform, you understand why. His stage presence, technique and style are something to admire as you become entranced with his beauty, poise and fluidity. On stage he almost appears to be in a trance as he mesmerizes you with his "gooey hotness" and pops and locks.

This workshop will focus on slowing down and integrating the core to initiate those slow, gooey movements. The warm-up is yogalates based and will concentrate on core, balance, and strengthening exercises that will be applied to the dance form. In the workshop students will drill various slow movements focusing on the core and learn how the making of subtle changes to the simple movements translates to noticeable beauty. Students will also learn how Steven’s Atash Mayan stylized gooey combinations can be used in an improvisational situation or in choreography.  


Tonya and Atlantis
2pm - 4pm

Tonya and Atlantis are the dynamic duo whose creative minds brought us The Belly Dancer of the Universe Competition, the most highly respected and prestigious global belly dance competition in the universe. They are the most awarded mother/daughter duo dancing and teaching in the field today. Tonya and Atlantis have produced over 100 belly dance videos and DVDs, among them are The Belly Dancer of the Universe Competition series featuring Tonya and Atlantis with talents from across the Universe, competing for the most coveted title in our field, The Belly Dancer of the Universe. 

This workshop is your guide to have a fabulous performance, every time! Fun filled informative facts and finds for ALL LEVELS of this dance! Novice or professional! From suitcase to stage. audition to competition, learn these helpful hints from the pros Tonya and Atlantis, to make yours a "CUTTING EDGE PERFORMANCE!" Highlights of this class include: stage and employment etiquette, competition and job auditions dos and don’ts, music and performance analysis, handling performance stress, and improvisational and inspirational dance techniques and combinations to help you deal with memory loss during a performance. This is an original lecture, demonstration, and class participation format created just for you by Tonya and Atlantis ’09.
